what is the magnitude of the acceleration of the blocks ?
Q. a force of 11.16 N pushes and pulls two blocks. in the picture it has 2 blocks and one force is in front of the blocks pulling the blocks up at a 60 degree angle and the other force is behind the blocks pushing the blocks straight on. the vertical contack surfaces between the two blocks are frictionless. the contact between the blocks and the horizontal surface has a coefficient of friction of .22 the acceleration of gravity is 9.8 m/s^2. one block has a mass of 1.2 kg and the other block has a mass of 2.4 kg. its accelerating to the right. what is the magnitude of the acceleration of the blocks ?

A. Okay, I'm not going to do your math for you, but I'll point you in the right direction. I'm not sure if the front force is acting only on the front box or on both, but I'm going to assume that it's acting only on the front box (B). The back box is box A. The front box is box B. The pushing force is force 1. The pulling force is force 2. Boxes are travelling together, so they have the same acceleration. You are interested in the acceleration in the horizontal plane, which I'm going to call the x direction. So, F = ma, right? Box A: F1 - Ffriction A - Fexerted by B on A = m A(accel) Box B: Fexerted by A on B + F2xdirect - Ffriction B = m B (accel) Now Fexerted by B on A = -Fexerted by A on B (newton's 2nd law) F2xdirection = 11.16(cos 60)… [cont.]

At the bottom of the incline, the 1.0 kg block collides with and sticks to a 2.0 kg block that is initially at rest. A spring slows the blocks, and when the blocks are momentarily at rest, the spring is compressed 0.15 m from equilibrium. The spring constant is 250 N/m. The surfaces the blocks slide on are frictionless. a) What is the speed of the blocks just after the collision? b) What is the speed of the 1.0 kg block just before the collision? c) How far up the incline was the initial position of the 1.0 kg block?

A. m=1 t=30 degrees u=3m/s M=2kg x=0.15 k=250 a) to find speed just after collision(v) by conservation of energy 1/2(M+m)v^2=1/2 kx^2 find v from above b)let it be v(1) , hence by momentum conservation mv(1)=(M+m)v find v(1) from above c) let it be h ,by conservation of energy 1/2mu^2+mgh(sin t)=1/2m Av(1)A^2 find h from it
